Telangiectasis – commonly known as thread veins, is an extremely common problem affecting approximately 80% of the population.

  • They are broken veins which look purple/red or blue colour and can appear anywhere on the body but are most common on the face and legs.

  • They are caused by a variety of factors including exposure to the elements such as sun, wind and extreme cold or hot conditions.

  • Thread veins can also be the result of hormonal changes whilst pregnant and can also be genetic

  • People who stand for long periods of time as part of their occupation are also prone to developing thread veins in their legs.

  • Medications such as HRT, the contraceptive pill and use of steroids creams can increase the likelihood of thread veins developing.

Treatment Procedure

Thread Vein Removal by Laser

Here at the Bodhi Zen clinic we have the latest technology laser to help treat your thread veins, birth marks and skin tags. The laser produces a hi-intensity ray of light which gives of heat energy. The energy is absorbed by different body tissues, depending on the colour of the laser beam. This is how laser light can pass safely through the skin and destroy thread veins without damaging the skin or surrounding areas.

Prior to your treatment, you will be required to have an initial consultation with a level 4 laser trained Nurse Practitioner prior to any laser treatment and you will be required to discuss your medical history, any allergies and any medication you may be taking or have taken in the last 12 months. Please bring all medication names with you for your consultation. This is to ensure your laser treatment is completely safe & delivers the most effective treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a Consultation  required for laser Treatment?

A consultation is always required to determine the possible realistic achievable results for Laser Thread Vein Removal

  • Before performing a treatment  a full client medical history is recorded and whether you are taking contra-indicated medications from your doctor or hospital and/or any other type of contra-indicated herbal remedies you are or have been taken in the last 6 – 12 months must also be recorded.

  • Please bring all medication names with you. This is to ensure your laser treatment is completely safe and delivers the most effective results

  • We also determine your particular skin type (According to the Fitzpatrick Classification for Sun-Reactive Skin Types).

What does the treatment feel like?

As the laser light is absorbed into the targeted blood vessels (thread veins) the treatment feels like a hot pin- prick or an elastic band being flicked onto the skin as the veins (Blanche) during treatment, coagulate and disappear. The skin is then cooled after treatment to reduce any stinging or discomfort you may experience.

The areas may be reddened and feel warm or a little swollen after treatment, and usually settles down within 24/48 hours, in some cases the skin may look slightly discoloured or ‘scaly’, this will fade quickly a few days after your treatment.

How many sessions do you recommend?

The number of treatments required will depend on the site and the extent of your thread veins. It may take from one treatment to a series of treatments for results to emerge, but often fading is visible after 1 session. Treatments are usually 4-6 weeks apart. Each time you visit our laser clinic you will be asked if there are any changes to your original consultation or are you taking any medication that may affect your laser treatment.

No treatments will be carried out on any skin exposed to UV light (sun or sun beds) Within the last 4 weeks.

How much does it cost?

Face £75 (per session per area)

Legs  £150 (per session per area)

Repeat treatments may be required for the best outcome if needed
